“YOLO” is the acronym and the acronym for “You only live once”.
YOLO is understood as a way of life in which fun and the use of opportunities to gain joy and experiences are in the foreground. YOLO is a way of life that encourages one’s own fears to be overcome and disregarded as false prohibitions. Discipline and reason (in the sense of “reasonable decisions”) play no role in YOLO. YOLO promotes a willingness to take risks and the courage to go unusual ways to have fun and experience something. Anyone who says YOLO suggests that he has courage and also a situation under control.
When someone reports on their YOLO acts, it is usually called “YOLO Action” or “YOLO Actions” or “YOLO Moment”.
“I jump now. Yolo! “
“Just ordered pizza for 40 euros. Yolo! “
“I do not do household chores. Yolo! “
“Morning exam. I do not need to learn. Yolo “
Among adolescents, the term “YOLO” is widely used. Anyone who knows only English has already contacted YOLO.
“You only live once” as the youth of the year
“YOLO” was voted Youth Word of the Year 2012. In second place came “FU!” And in third place ” Yalla “. In the same year, stood for election. Other well-known youth words are: Swag , Bae and ” Fly be “
YOLO and Carpe diem
“YOLO” is often compared, if not equated, with the Latin phrase “carpe diem”. “Carpe diem” means “enjoy the day” or “enjoy the day”.
Although “carpe diem” and “YOLO” seem similar at first glance, they are very different. Because “Carpe diem” on a reaction to the experiences of the Thirty Years War in Europe. The war led to many deaths and partly whole tracts of land were destroyed. In the seventeenth century people and their descendants responded to this experience by appraising and using the moment, that is, the here and now, because the feeling of vanity (transience) was still omnipresent for a long time.
“YOLO” has nothing to do with transitoriness or fear of death soon, but is more of a reaction to the fear of missing something. This is where the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) comes in, which motivates some to be more courageous so they will not regret missed opportunities later. While YOLO is an invitation to foolishness, Carpe Diem is summoned to humble and enjoy the day.
With the proliferation of social media and the ability to portray themselves through audacious actions on the Internet and perhaps gain some fame, YOLO has become more widespread.

A $ 16 billion valuation, more than 100 million daily active users (13-34 year olds), three billion video views per day, a failed Facebook takeover bid and partnerships with Buzzfeed, CNN, Vice or National Geographic : The photo-based messaging app Snapchat (free for iPhone and Android ) fascinates quite a few people worldwide, but leaves even more perplexed.
That’s the app for texting? The delete sent pictures after watching again? What does the app have for a terrible design? And what’s all that good for? Such and other doubtful questions can be heard repeatedly in conversation over Snapchat, but very few have even tried the app ever. That’s why rscdeporte.org is offering a Snapchat crash course here in 25 points, which will give non-users and adults an insight into the hyped teen app:
Sounds simple, but it is not. When signing up, you’re looking for a unique username (not necessarily the real name, can be a nickname or anything else) like Twitter, which can not be changed later. This username appears by default for the contacts. But you can in the settings (on the start screen to swipe down and then top right on the gear) choose a second name, which is then displayed to other users. So you can, for example, the user name “devilcry” choose, but you spend as “mrhyde”. A profile like on Facebook with a photo, description etc. you do not have at Snapchat.
Before you can send someone a picture or a video, of course, you need contacts. The functions can be found by tapping the ghost icon on the start screen and then selecting “friends added”. Upon your permission, Snapchat accesses the phone’s address book and searches its database to see if any users are already there who have specified a phone number from your address book. Contacts can also be added via the username (if you know this), via Wi-Fi (both must have the function “Nearby added” open) or via the so-called “Snapcode” add: This image similar to a QR code you can send it to other people (eg via Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp), and when you snap the snapcode with the Snapchat app, you will be added as your new contact.
3.Create and send a snap
If you finally found contacts, you can start with the actual main function. The is very easy to use, you just type on the home page on the trigger button. For (clear) selfies you can also switch to the front camera. If the photo is in the box, you can add many other elements to it: A tip on top of the small post-it symbol opens a rich selection of emojis, the “T” allows the caption, and the pencil icon opens a simple one Character editor that allows you to paint the photo with your finger on the display. When the artwork is done, look at the bottom left with the timer, how long the receiver is allowed to see the image (at least 1, maximum 10 seconds), and then tap the arrow icon at the bottom right. How to get into the contact list,
In the “Settings” under “More options” you will find the option “Filter”. If you enable them, Snapchat can access the location of your smartphone. This makes it possible to provide a photo with additional filters. Simply swipe left or right on the screen and not only color filters the way you would on instagram, but also the local temperature, the speed you’re currently using, the time, or given text blocks (eg “Greetings from Vienna “) over the snapshot.
5.Take a video (and zoom in)
With Snapchat you can make videos up to ten seconds long and add filters, emojis or text elements like photos. Normally, Snapchat videos are rotated in portrait format and not in landscape format, because the receivers usually have the smartphone in portrait orientation and prefer to watch videos in portrait-full portrait format. Snapchat has missed the video feature on a zoom – just swipe up or down the display.
6.Post a public story
Snapchat is often perceived as a messaging app that involves one-to-one or one-to-many Few communications. But since the introduction of the function “Stories” this is no longer the case. If you have made a snap and click on the plus icon in the middle of the middle, the snap will be visible to all contacts for 24 hours. A “story” emerges like this: If you regularly make snaps visible to all contacts, then Snapchat automatically builds a “story” out of these photos or videos, which can look like a slideshow.
7.Delete a story
To delete your own content (image or video) from your own “story” (My Story), tap on the three dots, select the respective snap and then click on the big X.
8.Curated Snapchat stories
How quickly Snapchat from “private” can be “public”, the curated stories show by the app makers: For large events, Snapchat reserves the right to summarize geodatized stories of users to longer stories (and also to save longer), which are then accessible to all users worldwide. Usually, however, only unsophisticated, friendly content is included in these curated stories (found in the “Live” section of the “Story” page).
With Snapchat, you can also chat via text messaging, similar to WhatsApp, but the messages disappear when both have seen them. The deletion is not always valid, because you can mark individual messages on a tap to remember them for later (eg if someone sends an address). If both parties are active in the chat at the same time (chats are to be found to the left of the start page), then they can start a video call. The fact that the function is active can be recognized by a light blue symbol.
10.Understand the many symbols
Snapchat breaks not only in app design with common standards, but also in the symbolism. That a filled pink arrow means that you have sent a snap without audio or a light blue speech bubble means that you got a text message, you have to learn first. Here is an overview of the meanings of the many symbols. In addition, in the contact list, icons such as hearts or smileys are displayed, which inform about the intensity, in which one exchanges with these contacts – explanations can be found here .
11.The data that saves Snapchat for the long term
Snapchat is known to erase images, videos, and text messages (that is, the content of conversations) after the recipient has seen them. However, this does not mean that Snapchat does not process users’ data over the long term, including phone number, email address, banking details, contact lists, MAC addresses, IMEI numbers, GPS data, IP addresses, and time, date, recipient, and Sender of news. These data are processed on servers in the US and can and will be shared with authorities.
12.Manage the privacy
Snapchat offers a few options to control your own privacy in the app. In Settings, you can choose who can send snaps to you (either “everyone” or “friends only”) and who can see your stories (either “everyone”, “friends only” or “custom” where you can block individual contacts ).
13.Detect if someone took a screenshot
Snapchat will show you a double-triangle icon when it detects that the recipient took a screenshot. However, the app can not detect this when the receiver has previously switched to airplane mode, then looks at the image, takes a screenshot, and then turns the airplane mode off again.
14.Send a saved image
Snapchat actually forces you to take a new picture on the homepage of the app and send it. But with a little trick you can also send older photos from the smartphone memory. To do this, swipe to the left in the list of chats, tap the small speech bubble in the upper left corner, select the recipient, tap on the yellow send icon and then on the lower right of the small preview image. So you get to the photo gallery, where you select a picture. It should be noted here that one should select the best portrait pictures here, landscape photos are automatically transversed by Snapchat across, which contradicts the nature of trimmed to portrait format app a little bit.
15.Painting black and white
When painting pictures you can choose in principle with the bar right from the rainbow colors. If you tap on the bar with your finger and then swipe all the way down or up to the edge of the screen, you can also select white (at the top) or black (at the bottom).
16.Lay large letters over the image
If you type in the image editing twice on the big T, then you can write in large letters rather than in small his message on the photo.
If you add an emoji icon to a photo, you can magnify it with the familiar zoom gesture on the touch screen (just two fingers apart) and place it anywhere on the photo.
18.View Discover content
If you’re boring, you can watch videos, photo galleries, or reports from Snapchat partners-these are Buzzfeed, MTV, Fusion, CNN, BR Sports, Vice, National Geographic, People, and Food Network. You can find their contents, which are refreshed daily, with a swipe to the right of the start page or two swipes to the right, in the Discover area. Note: Since Snapchat is aimed at younger audiences, the contents of the media partners are usually quite youthful and shrill and therefore not everyone’s thing. By the way, you close a Discover medium by wiping down.
19.Share Discover content
From Facebook (“share”) and Twitter (“retweet”) knows the sharing feature for content already well. Snapchat has it, if it’s a bit hidden: in the Discover section (for example, in a Vice article), you tap on the screen for a little longer, and then send the content to one or more contacts that you think you have they are interested in the content. In other apps like WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter you can not share the Snapchat content.
20.Report spam, hate mailing and harassment
Because even with Snapchat is not always everything bliss, you can report inappropriate content to the operators. This is not directly in the app, but currently only on this website: https://support.snapchat.com/co/inappropriate . It’s a bit of a hassle to describe the account and content you find harassing – by the way, best in English, as Snapchat does not yet offer community support.
A swipe to the left shows a list of all the chats you’ve had with other users so far. If you want to delete one or more of these conversations from the view, you have to scroll to the “Settings” area and then all the way down to the “Account Actions” area.
22.Remove contacts, block and change names
Under “My friends” (tap on the ghost on the start page) you get to the contact list. If you choose a contact, you will also see a small gear with the following three options: “Edit name” (if you want to rename your better half in Snapchat to “Hasibärli”), “Remove friend” or “Block”.
23.Prohibit being found via telephone number
By default, you can find other users after their phone number has been disclosed. Who wants to prevent this goes in the settings in the area “mobile number” and there operates the appropriate controller that prohibits.
24.Change phone number
Snapchat relies heavily on the phone number to identify the user, security (2-step verification via SMS code) and networking of users. If you get a new mobile number, then you have to announce this Snapchat to continue to use the app as usual. In the settings you can change it under the item “mobile number”. Snapchat sends a code to the new number for verification by SMS, which you then have to enter.
Directly in the app you can not delete his Snapchat account, you have to make the detour to the website https://accounts.snapchat.com and log in there.
Some users have complained that Snapchat does not load messages / videos. And some users have tapped the Snapchat. But this app only displays a black screen with no error message, no matter how long you have left a video where it is not being loaded. And it’s weird that sometimes only Snapchat can not be viewed by one particular user and that others download. After that, they said they just saw a gray thumbnail and Snapchat can not load those pictures anymore.
Snapchat does not load messages / videos on different devices, including Samsung, LG, Nexus, Motorola, iPhone X / 8, etc. If you experience the same issue, follow this article to fix Snapchat if Snapchat does not load!
Restart your smartphone
Restart the smartphone and try to restart if the Snapchat still does not load.
For most Android models, simply press and hold the power button and the volume down button until the phone turns off. then it will restart. The exact reboot depends on your phone.
For iPhone X / 8 :
Press the volume up button and release it.
Then press the volume down button and release.
Then hold down the side key until the Apple logo appears.
For iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus : Press and hold the Page button and the Volume down button until the Apple logo appears.
If this method can not work, go to the next method.
Empty Snapchat Cache (Android only)
Since you use Snapchat, Snapchat downloads all kinds of data and media to your phone. And if one of the downloaded files is corrupted, the app may misbehave and cause Snapchat files to fail to load.
On an Android device, go to Settings> Apps> Snapchat> Storage and tap Empty Cache.
Or, you can open Snapchat> Preferences> Clear Cache to clear the cache data in the app.
It does not take long and causes no data loss. It deletes only all cached files to force the app to sync with Snapchat servers.
Clean up conversation
If you find the gray preview image annoying, go to Snapchat> Settings> Account Actions> Delete Conversation. And then delete the conversation. Note that all Snapchat sent and received in the conversation will be removed.
Check network connection
If you use Wi-Fi, you should use mobile networks. If you use mobile networks, try WIFI. Note that you are in the area of the router when it comes to Wi-Fi. If the signal is missing, restart your router or modem. Pull out the plug and plug it in again.
Some users find it useful to change the DNS settings of smartphones. Learn how to change DNS to Android.
STEP 1 Go to Settings> WIFI or simply long press the WIFI icon in the notification window.
STEP 2 Press and hold or tap Change Network to open the WIFI network options.
STEP 3 Change the IP settings to static. If the menu does not appear, tap Show advanced settings.
STEP 4 Then change DNS1 and DNS2 to 188.8.131.52 and 184.108.40.206. That’s Google DNS.
Add a friend again
Just like deleting conversations, adding that friend again removes all Snapchat sent and received with that friend. Go to “Snapchat”> “Add friends”> “My friends” and remove the affected from the list. Then you can add it back.
